About Me (In My Own Words)
I have had a heart murmur since I was 9 years old. In 2000 I had pericarditis & had surgery to remove a gallon of fluid from around my heart. It was determined that the effusion was caused by my newly diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis or my Lupus. On top of all these problems I was diagnosed with severe neutropenia which means I virtually had no immune system! In spite of all this I ran my own business, traveled all over the world, and did most of the things I loved. My cardiologist just watched my aortic stenosis every year, then every 6 months. In December 2015 he told me I needed to have valve replacement surgery in the next 3 months. I was told this the day after my mother-in-law who lived with us died. Quite a shock!
I put it off until I finally got an appointment at CC in March 2016. I went there with the intention of having the TAVR procedure, but after much testing, it was decided I needed the full sternum procedure.
I then had to get rid of gum infection which entailed having 7 teeth removed & 2 bone grafts. So with my slow healing I was scheduled for surgery on 6/24/16. My whole family ncluding my 3 adult children flew from Dallas, TX to Cleveland on Wed.
Had pre op on Thursday, today, I was told my WBC & hemoglobin were too low and my surgery was postponed until this was corrected. Not very happy as I have had a low WBC for 16 years & my surgeon & hemo in Dallas had spoken several times. So here I sit in Cleveland with my whole family from Dallas hoping I can have the surgery next week.
