About Me (In My Own Words)
Because I always looked younger than my years, the doctors and cardiologists dismissed my fatigue, chest pain and racing heart as a good case of over stressed woman syndrome. Yes, I am still angry, however, things started looking up as the atrial fibrillation became more constant.
Had open heart surgery on July 1, 2009 to replace my mitral valve with a Sorin Bicarbon mechanical valve and the Cox Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation. Dr. Donald Buehler at Scripps Memorial in La Jolla did the surgery. He is a great surgeon and feels it deeply when his patients do not improve properly.
The afib seems to be gone and now I experience PVC, premature ventricular contractions. This is "normal" after heart surgery and should stop within a year. My blood pressure is still up and down but I am hopeful that the right medicines will do the job soon.
Have completed Cardiac Rehab and now do an exercise maintenance program at Tri-City Cardiac Center in my home town. I really enjoy working out with other heart patients. We speak the same language.
Adam's book gave me courage to face my condition. His web site and email blogs keep me going daily.
