About Me

I have a bi-cuspid aortic valve with an ascending aortic anuerysm. Tests have shown the valve is not leaking and is pumping normally. The anuerysm is 5.2cm and extends from the aortic root to the aortic arch. At this time we (the docs and I)are thinking the valve will not need to be replaced and the aortic root looks ok. The anuerysm does involve the lower part of the arch. I am hoping to have surgery in late August. I am extremely grateful to my cardiologist, Dr. Mark Casey who has spent a great deal of time patiently talking me through this experience and his staff for taking all the questions I think of the day after my appointments! I still have to decide where to have the surgery and which surgeon. I have narrowed it down to Dr. John Rousou at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA or Dr. Gus Vlahakes at MA General Hospital Boston, MA. Oh yeah, I am 42 yo construction supervisor.
