I'm 66 years old and, like you, had a heart murmur since birth. I had no symptons until a few years ago and my only symptom was an irregular heart beat. A little over a year ago my cartiologist told me that I would need to have mitral valve surgery in the next couple of years. A year later I was told I needed the surgery soon. I had done some research on robotic surgery and went to Southern California (no heart surgeons in northern California use the robot for open heart surgery) for a consulation. After several tests I was told I was a good candidate for the da vinci robotic surgery.
I had my surgery on February 16th, a mitral valve repair using robotic surgery. I was out of the hospital in four days and everything has gone well. The day I was released from the hospital I walked for an hour with my husband and every day afterwards. At two months I was back playing golf and all other activities.
You may already have had your surgery by now but, in case you haven't, I thought I would share my wonderful robotic surgery and outcome with you.
Best of luck.
Sorry for the loss of your pregnancy. I just had a mitral valve repair on March 2 and am home recovering. My surgery was done using an incision under my breast, but not robotically. I had a good experience at the hospital and my recovering is progressing nicely. There is some one on this site who had robotic surgery...her name is Amy...look up her journal perhaps she can answer some questions. Good luck we are here to help in anyway we can.
