Susan Mills Hi Susan
I am in my 12th week post-op and doing great. The surgery was not as bad as anticipated and recuperation has been good also. My sister came and stayed with me for a week after surgery, as it was difficult to bend over and lift anything over 5 lbs. If you can get someone to help out the first week, it would be great. Just let me know what questions or concerns that you have, and I will be more than happy to answer them (I can go into more detail on certain things then). Good luck with your surgeon search!

I'd say make sure you have comfortable things to wear at the hospital, like a robe. Otherwise you're stuck with that terrible hospital gown they give you. Also things to read or occupy your mind for the days after surgery are good to have on hand. If possible have a loved one around especially post-op in case nurses or doctors whisk in and out saying important things that you can't grasp because of the meds you'll be on or because you're tired or whatever. My wife and my mother were there for me to take notes and they remembered far more detail than I could.
Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

Hi Susan,
Since you live alone, you might want to have some important information written down concerning at least your most important affairs. Things that would need to be taken care of for a short time by someone you would trust if you needed a little more time to recover. Like if you couldn't do some things like pay your bills on-line for example, or get groceries or you don't feel well and need to get a script refilled. These are just some things/ideas I though that might help you. I am married, and when I went in for my MVR it never dawned on me to write down my info.for my accounts that I took care of on-line myself for my husband in case he had to help me with them.
Also get yourself some simple snacks that are healthy to eat when your home.Things like raisins,nuts/seeds protein bars, peanut butter and my staple even now, bananas.
Once I read your story and journal and how soon your surgery is I had to do this. Well hope something I wrote helps you in some way. Most of all, I'll be praying for you too that God will be with you through your surgery and recovery. God Bless.

Susan Mills Thanks so much for the advice Marie. I have taken care of upcoming bills (most are automatically withdrawn from account) and stocked up on snacks. My sister (who has all my personal information) is coming from out of town to spend the first few days with me and I have other friends that will help with things that I need and with kitties. Did my pre-op yesterday - just waiting for Monday morning. Have to be there at 5:45am! Thanks so much for the prayers too.
