I can not recommend a surgeon but can say that I just had the mini where they notch the sternum rather than split it. My recovery he's been very good and some quicker than a full sternotomy. Good luck in finding someone and keep us posted.

Good luck.

Joe,
I'm not positive, but I don't believe "redoes" can be done minimally invasively. I recall reading that there is too much scar tissue. You'll have to see what the surgeon says. I think I also read that it is a little easier the second time around. Good luck!

joe karbus I hope thats not true because I waited ten years hoping for a less invasive and easier and faster surgery than my first-I know my first surgery had to be a full median sternotomy but all I need now is a new valve-any rib incision or mini-sternotomy would be welcome if the surgeon ONLY needs to get at the valve. Cedars-Sinai and USC Keck have surgeons who specialize in the mini as a "standard" procedure-Im hoping to talk with them soon-will interview at least 3 surgeons who do the mini because I want it so badly.

That is my biggest fear. I went in for the tavir program but I don't qualify. Not sickly and old. When choosing a bovine valve the dr. said it will probably have to be replaced but I was under the assumption 20 years or so. good luck
