No, I didn't have a power lifter chair and I was fine. My issues are not with the chair but make sure tylenol based drugs work for you. Narcotic based drugs can be very disorienting. I do well on Ibuprofen based pain killers, they make all the difference in pain management. Constipation can also be an issue so make sure you ask for help in that area as well. We want to make our brief stay as comfortable as possible in hospital.

Hi Howard. Welcome to the site and the community.
My opinion is: yes, get a recliner but not sure about an electric recliner as they are very expensive and I am rental averse. I don't like to rent.
I had a normal but very comfy suede recliner with three postions and I used it for two weeks straight for sleeping. I was caught off guard on how compromised your core (intercausal muscles) becomes after surgery. It just blew me away! I found that sleeping in the recliner was the way to go to re-build my core enough to go back to sleeping in bed. When I got to bed it was further adjustment to my body because the muscles were re-adjusting themselves again to the new postion. Whew, the surgery really knocks you back for awhile and for more than you think.
Hope this gives you perspective. Bob O.
Howard Herman thanks for the tip. so you didn`t need an electric chair

If you can go "minimal" that would be great too! Good luck to you with your meeting with Dr. Markowitz. I am hoping you hear from people that have been at the clinic soon.
I know that I haven't read anything on our site for the clinic I am going to for my surgery at Kaiser in Santa Clara, Ca. and it would be nice to hear from someone who has been there.
Take care-
Howard Herman thanks for the support. I don`t know anyone in Santa Clara

Howard Herman thanks, next meeting with Dr Markowitz on Wed, 7/23 to determine course of action. Lucky to be in Cleveland with the Clinic and University Hospital. Will also try to meet with Dr Gillinov who does minimal invasive mitral valves.
