Hi there - I was trying to catch up with people from the past and googled your name and came up with this. Wow. I have thought about you often and hoped you are well - as I have thought about the rest of our team. But I had no idea that you were dealing with major surgery. I'm glad that it went well and hope you and Brad are doing well. Love to you - Jennifer & Dave
Hi Brad & Darlene.....I am SO glad you are doing well and feeling good. It has been nice to get your updates. Saturday is the anniversary of Uncle Ray's accident and we are going to have just a short graveside ceremony as I am home for Thanksgiving. It will be short and small and I do not want to ask you to make the long trip for such a short ceremony but wanted you to be aware of it. I think it will give me a sense of closure as I was so in shock last year. Hugs to both of you......Aunt Linda
Thanks for posting. I am having mitral valve repair December 28th and your story was a comfort. So glad all went smooth and you are doing so well. I plan on following in your footsteps!!! Janis Kielbasa
Darlene, I am 5 months post op. I just wanted to let you know that the numbness is normal and will take months to go away but it will. My surgeon said that where they make the incision between the 4th and 5th rib, that's right were the nerves to the nipple are. My nipple is still numb but over the past month it has gotten alot better. My entire right pectoral was numb at first. When my nerves first started coming back, a few months ago, it was very irritating to even have a t-shirt touch my chest. That has gone away and now it's mainly my nipple I've also had a slight increase in pain when my nerves gain more feeling. It's not bad pain though and certainly doesn't require pain meds.
You are doing great, seem to be right on target with your recovery. Continue to practice being patient, your walking will help you heal and relax. I am so happy with your results so far, keep up the good work.
Hey Darlene...this is Kenton.
Great update and news from the Doc. It sounds like the Cardio-rehab is progressing well also.
Thisngs continue to get better here. We are making progress on many fronts. Your team is doing well and so is Al leading it.
Enjoy your time off....it will end sooner than you think!
Hey Dar!! I heard that you had had heart surgery, and I just found this website for you!! Google is apparently an amazing thing.. sorry I did not think of it sooner! Getting 4 kids off to school, with one starting kindergarten and one staring middle school, has taken me out of the loop for the past couple of weeks.
So sorry to hear of all the stuff you have had to endure and we wish you a speedy and thorough recovery. When you are feeling better, we have got to get together. It's been WAY too long - clearly! Give that spunky heart of yours a no nonsense talk and get her back into action! Hugs to Brad for being by your side for you through this......
Darlene, great communicating today and great update and news from your doc! While you are recovering, you have an opportunity to test an old saying.....you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Please apologize to Lexie (sp?) for me! Kenton
You are an amazing woman! Congratulations for staying so positive and strong through years of heart issues...lord knows it came as a surprise to your JLL friends. The Polish Princess reigns on! You've been in my thoughts and prayers daily eventhough this is my first post. We have lots to celebrate when we get together...BBK and I want to come see you as soon as your up for us - we'll lay off the steak and red wine for now. I'm so thankful that you've had close friends and family by your side during such a serious surgury. You are a treasure on earth! Thanks for the updates and keep us posted. All my love! Laura and Nuge
Hi Darlene. I've been keeping up with your progress. Boy have they come a long way from 2007 when Sabik did my mom's mitral valve! So glad to hear that you are doing well. Take care of yourself and don't rush it too much your body needs rest.
Congratulations on your successful surgery story! I am a Clevelander and will be having my mitral valve at the Cleveland Clinic also and am crossing my fingers to have the minimally invasive procedure.
I saw that a Dr. Sabik did your surgery- how did you end up picking him? Did you consult at all with Dr. Gillanov? I am just curious as to how you ending up with the surgeon you did have.
If you want to email me directly my email is firstname.lastname@example.org or via my journal guestbook.
