Cynthia Garza Thank you, Ruth. Although I had aortic valve replacement surgery over ten years ago, I can't forget what it's like going through that. fortunately, I have an amazing mother who is a nurse by profession, but an even better mother. She was and has always been right besides me. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I will definitely keep you in my prayers. God bless you.
Hi Cynthia,
Sorry to hear the news about your valve.
What type of valve did you have implanted?

Cynthia Garza Adam,
I have great news. I visited the surgeon late last week. After a subsequent echo and lab work, he recommended a TEE. At that time, the doctors discovered that I have a small perforation underneath the aortic valve. The combination of the velocity of the blood pumping through the valve and the perforation were what indicated a high pressure gradient.
The surgeon informed me that surgery would not be required since the perforation is small, and I have no symptoms whatsoever. However, they will continue monitoring the perforation just like they do my artificial aortic valve.
As to your question, I had a St. Jude aortic valve implanted in July of 2010. It has been almost 11 years since my surgery, and I feel great. Thank you for your response and concern. I applaud you for your book, website and continued support of people undergoing valve surgery. God bless you in all of your endeavors.
