HeartValveSurgeons.com Now Available In Beta Mode!!!

April 2nd, 2009

In 2006, I developed this website and published my book with a simple goal… To help future patients and caregivers better understand the challenges and opportunities of heart valve surgery.

Today, three years later, I believe we are taking one more, significant step in achieving that goal. Thanks to the efforts of this community, I am excited to share that the Heart Valve Surgeon Database is now available for use in “beta” mode.

As we have discussed, finding good, reputable and trustworthy surgeons is often challenging for patients and their caregivers. For this reason, the Heart Valve Surgeon Database was developed with many unique features:

  • This database was developed by patients-for-patients! That said, this tool provides you with direct access to patient feedback about heart valve surgeons.
  • This database uses “patient-centric criteria” for search! You can search by surgeon location, by surgeon name, by problematic valve and by surgical procedure.
  • This database is free! Yep! Free!!! Unlike other websites and offline agencies, there are no costs to use this database.
  • This database is expanding rapidly with patient inputs! Since announcing this initiative, over 300 patients have submitted their surgeon profiles. Today, the database has surgeon profiles from 20+ countries around the world.

Again, I would like to thank every patient and caregiver that contributed their time-and-energy to this project. This database would not be possible without you!!!

Finally, as referenced above, this database is in “beta” or “test” mode. That said, you may experience some problems as you utilize the tool. Try to not get frustrated or angry! Simply share your thoughts or constructive criticisms by clicking here. Please remember, I am not a techie / programmer and this is not my day job. I’m doing my best to learn and help as fast as possible. :)

Keep on tickin!

Hi Adam,
Wow!! You could not have timed this better. I am very pleased to hear the database is up and running for 2 reasons: #1–I was one of those people who wrote you (just last month) and said “Hi Adam! I live in __________ (fill in the blank). Can you recommend a heart surgeon?” #2–my “soon-to-be” surgeon HAS MADE THE DATABASE!!! I’m meeting him for the first time next week to discuss my upcoming aortic & mitral valve replacement. And, although I have had other people tell me that he is the best at what he does, having him show up in this database with such wonderful things said about him from one of his former patients is awesome. Thank you so much for the passion you have to help others, And one last thing…GO BLUE!!

hi adam, this database was a very good idea ! something like this would have helped me when i was researching for my surgeon.you definately came up with a very helpful way to find a surgeon ! hopefully with our recommendations, anyone faced with this surgery will have this invaluable tool. i did not write alot about my surgeon(wasnt sure how much room i had)so i just wrote a few main pro’s. if anyone would like more info they can contact me at jeffstoveken@yahoo.com with any questions.

Hi Adam,

Great. Thank you very much. I will use this to help select my surgeon. One important piece of info that would be great to have with each listing, is the hospital(s) the surgeon is affiliated with. As a health care professional, and one who has formerly treated post op open heart patients, I probably understand better than most that the hospital where the surgery is performed is just as important as the surgeon him/herself.

Again thanks,
George S

Oh dear it is me again … may I have you add my surgery date to my recommendation on the data base? If that is still possible. Dr. Adams in NY, NY Cynthia Tarver .. date of surgery Feb. 3, 2009. At 10 wks. post op. doing VERY well physically …
Thanks
Cindy

Adam,

I added my surgeon to the database but did not see how to add his picture. What should I do now to add his picture?
