Heart Valve Surgeon Database – Will You Help?

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

PLEASE NOTE: THIS BLOG HAS BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE VISIT HEARTVALVESURGEONS.COM TO SEE THE HEART VALVE SURGEON DIRECTORY.

One of the most common questions I receive from patients and caregivers goes something like this, “Hi Adam! I live in __________ (fill in the blank). Can you recommend a heart surgeon in __________  (fill in the blank)?”

Thanks to your testimonials and my research, I have developed several relationships with many highly-regarded cardiothoracic surgeons in the United States and abroad. I actively refer patients to those surgeons as much as possible. Sometimes, however, I find myself unable to offer referrals given the patient’s location and surgical requirements.

For that reason… I was just thinking, “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a FREE, searchable database for patients and caregivers to find the best heart valve surgeons anywhere in the world?”

So, I’m wondering:

If so, I would have a programmer make a very simple, online database. Then, former patients and caregivers could quickly enter information about their heart valve surgeons. The net result would be a free, helpful resource for locating heart valve surgeons.

Well… What do you think???

Simply click here to leave me a comment. Or, email me at adam@heart-valve-surgery.com. If enough people respond, I’ll contact my programmer and start on this project right away.

Keep on tickin!

Mike’s Aneurysm and Aortic Valve Surgery – A Weekly Synopsis

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Mike just had open heart surgery to correct an aneurysm and leaky heart valve. I thought you might enjoy reading about Mike’s positive outcome and his incredibly positive attitude. Here is what Mike wrote to me:

Hi Adam, I wanted to thank you for your book. It certainly helped me to understand what was going to happen to me and what to expect – before, during and after heart surgery.

My Story: I went in for a routine physical last July and although I’ve had a heart murmur all my life, my doctor noticed the murmur was significantly louder. He ordered an ultrasound and sure enough it showed my aortic valve was leaking over 50 percent of what it was pumping. I also had an aneurysm in the first six inches of my upper aorta measuring 5.3 cm. I was told I should get it fixed within the next 5-to-6 months.

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Here’s a quick “True or False” trivia question about aortic stenosis, one of the most prevalent heart valve disorders:

Are the risk factors of aortic stenosis most common in patients under the age of fifty years? (For the answer, scroll down below the picture of a calcified aortic valve.)

Edwards Lifesciences Sees Strong Mitral Valve And Sapien Growth

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

As I previously wrote in “Big, Big Boomer Growth”, Edwards Lifesciences continues to defy the odds.

At a time when most stocks are down 40% due to the lingering recession, the largest heart valve manufacturer based in Irvine, California, continues to see its share price elevate. Edwards Lifesciences stock, traded on the New York Stock Exchange, is up 46% during the last twelve months.

Last week, Edwards announced that the company (once again) generated stellar sales during the last quarter due to improved growth of its heart valve replacement devices – including its new MAGNA mitral valve replacement and its transcatheter aortic valve technology, known as SAPIEN.
