Mitral Valve Repair Video By Dr. Adams

There’s no doubt about it. Doctor David Adams from Mount Sinai in New York [1] deserves a lot of credit for his surgical skills. Many, many, many patients I speak with praise Dr. Adams and his team – especially for mitral valve repair surgeries.
That said, I thought you might like to see Dr. Adams at work. Here is a mitral valve repair [2] video of a 50-year old physician suffering from mitral valve regurgitation [3] due to valve leaflet prolapse [4]. Simply press the “play” button and make sure the volume on your computer is turned up to watch this video.
I have to admit… The video narrative by Dr. Adams is little technical. The surgeon uses several terms that most patients are not familiar with – like posterior leaflets and mitral annulus [5]. However, if you can put that aside, I believe you will really enjoy this valve repair video. Doctor Adams completely restructures this patient’s heart valve structure and flaps [6] to eliminate regurgitation.
I found the following parts of the video extra-interesting: (i) use of the sizer to measure the valve ring support, (ii) use of the saline test which illustrates the valve leak before surgery and valve competency after surgery and (iii) use of the pre- and post-operative echocardiogram of the mitral valve. [7]
