Cardiac Surgery 101: How To Suture A Heart Valve Replacement (Video)

March 9th, 2008

I am always looking for online videos that might help patients and caregivers better understand the heart valve surgery process.

I don’t know about you… But, as double heart valve surgery patient, I always wondered, “How is the heart valve replacement stitched inside the heart?”

Yesterday, I was on YouTube.com when I saw this interesting video about how cardiothoracic surgeons suture (stitch) heart valve replacements into place. The video also illustrates some differences in the suturing process for mechanical heart valve replacements and tissue valve replacements (e.g. pig valve replacement).
