Halls Mechanical Heart Valve
Blog Topics: Medtronic; Hall Mechanical Heart Valve
I just received a question that reads, “What do you know about Halls Mechanical Heart Valve?”
In reviewing the question, I think the patient means “What do you know about Medtronic’s Hall Mechanical Heart Valve?” not “What do you know about Halls Mechanical Heart Valve?”
Medtronic is the manufacturer of the mechanical heart valve. The Hall Mechanical Valve is the product type. As you may know, Medtronic is one of the leading mechanical heart valve makers - along with St. Jude Medical.

Anyways, back to the question. Here is what I found after visiting the Medtronic website:
“Since its introduction in 1977, the Medtronic Hall Mechanical valve has proved to be extremely durable, hemodynamically efficient and at very low risk for thromboembolic complications.”
“The Medtronic Hall valve is especially suited for patients with hypertrophied septa, calcified annuli, small aortic annuli, and poor anticoagulant compliance. The valve includes a one-piece titanium housing with no welds or introduced bends. A carbon-coated disk with a unique central hole allows for a maximum opening angle of 75 degrees. The disk is retained and guided by a guide strut that protrudes through this hole.”

As I did not have a mechanical heart valve replacement surgery (I had the Ross Procedure), I do not have any direct patient experience with this valve. However, I have heard that Medtronic makes an excellent and very durable mechanical heart valve.
I hope this helps answer the question, “What do you know about Halls Mechanical Heart Valve?”
Keep on tickin!
