What Is The Medtronic Hancock Porcine Heart Valve?

There are several choices a patient will make as they prepare for heart valve replacement surgery – the surgeon, the hospital, the procedure, where to recover, etc.
For those patients who chose to have a tissue valve replacement [1], the question ultimately becomes, “Which tissue valve should I chose?” and “Which manufacturer makes the best valve for me?”
In this blog, I am going to profile a number of the leading valve manufacturers (Edwards, Medtronic, St. Jude Medical, On-X, ATS) and their valve replacement products. In my opinion, it really does help to know more about the valve that may accompany you during the rest of your life, right?
Today, I am going to profile the Medtronic Hancock Porcine Heart Valve.

So you know, the Medtronic Hancock Porcine Heart Valve has been used for over 20 years and a recent research study showed 100% freedom from structural valve deterioration in patients 65 or age or older.
Interestingly enough, Dr. Tirone David from Canada [4] has commented on this valve. He said, “The durability of the Medtronic Hancock Porcine Heart Valve has been excellent, particularly in the aortic position.”
I hope that helps you better understand a little bit more about the tissue heart valve replacement known as the Medtronic Hancock Porcine Heart Valve.
Keep on tickin!
