Comments on: Are There Coumadin And Prilosec Contraindications To Be Aware Of?

I have been on Coumadin for 5 years and today i took a Prilocec OC and after 3 and a half hours i felt as if i was going to faint ant my head spinning..Could that be from the interraction of both pills?

I had a mechanical Valve implanted on 2 June 08. Am taking Coumadin and Prilosec. Have not noticed any problems yet.

Adam,

Prilosec (omeprazole) may inhibit hepatic metabolsim of coumadin (warfarin) and cause an increase in INR and thus an increased chance of bleeding. It is recommended to keep the Prilosec dose to less than 20 mgs a day.
