Surgeon Profile: Dr. Robert Guyton – Heart Surgeon From Atlanta, Georgia

August 28th, 2007

Recently, I ran an extensive survey to better understand the realities of heart valve surgery for patients and their caregivers. Some of the questions posed to the 78 former, heart valve surgery patients were about their surgeons. The responses to these questions were very interesting.

As I reviewed the survey results, a few select surgeons received high marks and comments from their patients. One of those top cardiothoracic surgeons was Dr. Robert Guyton from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Robert Guyton is the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Guyton is the distinguished Charles Ross Hatcher Professor of Surgery and Director of Emory’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Training Program.

With those credentials and the excellent reputation of Dr. Robert Guyton among the patients, I can understand why Dr. Guyton is so highly regarded.

Dr. Robert Guyton attended Harvard Medical School and graduated in 1971. Since then, the heart surgeon held an internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Robert Guyton was the Chief Resident in Cardiac Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Robert Guyton has clinical and research interests in:

  • Off pump coronary artery bypass
  • Bypass surgery
  • Cardiac revascularization
  • Mitral valve prolapse
  • Valve Repair and valve replacement

You can reach Dr. Robert Guyton in Atlanta, Georgia at (404) 778-3836.

Again, I learned about Dr. Robert Guyton from his own heart valve surgery patients.

Keep on tickin!
