Dr. Kevin Accola, Heart Surgeon, Orlando, Florida, CardiothoracicTop Cardiothoracic Surgeons - Kevin Accola, MD

Hi there,

From February through April of this year, I ran an extensive survey to better understand the realities of heart valve surgery for patients and their caregivers.

Some of the questions posed to the 78 former, heart valve surgery patients were about their surgeons. The responses to these questions were very interesting.

As I reviewed the survey results, a few select surgeons received high marks and comments from their patients. One of those top cardiothoracic surgeons was Kevin Accola from Orlando, Florida.

Kevin Accola’s key interests are adult cardiac surger and general thoracic surgery. As for Dr. Accola’s background here are some key things to know:

  • Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Il.
  • University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago, Il
  • General Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston,TX
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA

If you are interested to know more about Kevin Accola, here is his contact information:

How many heart catheterizations does Dr. Accola perform annually? Is this information available on the internet?

  2. Adam Pick Says:

    Hi Barbara,

Sorry, I don’t have the data you are looking for. (FYI, most catheterizations are performed by cardiologists not the surgeons.) If you are thinking about selecting Dr. Accola as your heart surgeon, you may want to contact his office.

My husband had to have heart valve surgery last year. He was understandably very nervous about the surgery but the moment he met Dr. Accola, he immediately felt at ease. Dr. Accola is hands down the best heart surgeon in Orlando, He spent over 30 minutes with us explaining all of our options and ended our visit with “don’t worry, this is what I do.” Those simple words was all it took for my husband to know he really was in the best hands possible. Half way through the surgery, Dr. Accola came out, sat down next to me and told me exactly what was happening and reassured me that everything was going great. This man is a god send!

I am a 38 year old male. Have had diabities since I was 11. I had a heart attack while working for a week up in Georgia. They kept me in the hospital for 11 days with experts form Emory University to tell me I could not have by pass surgery and needed a transplant. I came back home, saw Dr. Chin Kim at the Florida Heart Group, he was great, sent me to see Dr Accola. What a wonderful man he is. Very pleasent and friendly. He made my family and myself feel so much better. He said he saw a 99% success rate on doing a triple by pass surgery. Well needless to say I had the surgery about a month ago and feel great. Still some healing to do which is to be expected. All teh nurses even praised the work he does. He has the hands of GOD.

Dr. Accola will be performing my husband’s AVR the first week of Oct. He was very, very pleasant and friendly. He gave us our options, reassured us that my husband would be fine-yes, he said “That is what I do!”. He made us feel 100% better about the situation. Yes, we are scared, but we are in good hands!! Will let you all know how it goes!

My mother, her name is Carmen. Two years ago she had an open heart surgery done by another doctor in the country where she lives. Then she needed a triple bypass, but only one was done because the other two arteries where in extremely deteriorated. Well, by providence, this past month of November while my mother was here in the US visiting my niece in Orlando, she suffered a heart attack, and another open heart surgery was required, this time to replace a valve and to do another bypass in one of the extremely damaged artery, but this time was Dr. Accola the surgeon. Before the surgery, and without knowing that a heart valve could be repaired my specific prayer to Jesus was, “Lord, please take my mother’s heart in your hands, and use the Doctor’s hands a a tool to repair her heart”, that’s why I couldn’t help but cry after reading “Neil B” comment above where he writes “he has the hands of GOD”. I have no doubt, that God used Dr. Accola’s hands to heal my mother’s heart, he not only took the time to repair her mitral valve but also performed the bypass that other very talented doctor could not perform in a extremely damaged artery. Now my mother is doing very well.

Dr. Accola is the best surgeon and a wonderful person. Im a 22 year old female that had ASD which is basically a hole in my heart, Dr. Accola reassured me and my mom that he was gonna take care of me. Me and my mom were so scared but after he came in to talk to us we felt much better and we knew that god sent him to heal my heart. He made me feel very comfortable I would recommend him to anyone who needs heart surgery. Even when i went to my follow up appointment he made me feel so much better about my surgery, he’s very loving and always smiling.

Dr. Accola operated on my Mom last November replacing a heart valve. The care and concern received from Dr. Accola, as well as his staff, from the initial visit was incredible. Not only did I realize that my Mom was in the hands of the Lord, I realized as well that the Lord was going to use Dr. Accola to fix this imperfection. She is doing very well today … glad to know that there was this magnitude of a doctor available when needed. THANKS!

I’m a surgical tech student and I have had the privilage of being in three of Dr Accola’s open heart surgeries, and I can assure you that you can’t be on better hands. He is kind and professional and he really cares… that the most important thing.
