Weight Loss After Surgery?

January 8th, 2007

There are several things I did not know about ‘the recovery’ following heart valve surgery.

One thing I definitely did not know about was how much weight I would lose in the first eight weeks following my aortic valve replacement.

I knew that I would lose some weight following heart valve surgery. My friends, family and doctors all told me it is very common to lose weight following a major procedure.

However, I had no idea how much weight I would actually lose.

I will never forget when I entered cardiac rehab and I stepped on the scale for the first time.

So you know, I’m six feet, one inch tall.

I typically weigh about 186 pounds.

Take a guess how much I weighed nine weeks after my Ross Procedure (aortic valve replacement)??????

I weighed 172 pounds!!!

I couldn’t believe it!

I lost about 14 pounds.

The good news?

It’s one year after the surgery and I gained it all back (and then some)!

I now weigh about 191 pounds.

Keep on tickin,

Adam
